Reclaimed Materials

In an age with an uncertain environmental future, I have been determined to find a purpose for items that would otherwise be considered rubbish and contribute to landfill.

Less than a fifth of plastic is actually recycled globally each year, and there is estimated to be six times more plastic in the oceans than sea life. When I discovered this, I knew that I had to make a concerted effort to use “disposable” materials such as food packaging and for artistic purposes. In doing this, I also reduce the amount of additional materials I need to purchase for my art, which would often unavoidably be wrapped in still more plastic!

For years I have been liberating single use plastics and other things that may otherwise have ended up littering our oceans, determined to find a creative use for them. Something that would surpass their life as just 'packaging for apples’ or ‘disposable carrier bag’.

This project is a bit of a work in progress, as I experiment with the potential of these items. To keep up with my progress on this journey, you can sign up to my mailing list, or follow me on TikTok, where I will be sharing the outcomes.
