Fibre Art

Fibre art connects us to generations of artists before us. As I manipulate the fibres I feel that connection, and consider the stories that have been told and the relationships that have been bound through fabric and fibre.

I am sure I am not the only one whose grandmother taught them to knit and embroider at a young age, and I immediately became fascinated by its tactile nature.

In the past, fibre arts have been seen as a largely female pursuit and are therefore often diminished historically. I hope to challenge people’s perception and show that fibre arts can be beautiful, powerful and evocative - and champion the makers that have come before us (regardless of gender identity) through each woven strand of my work.
